About the institution

Khon Kaen University (KKU) is a leading public research university in northeastern Thailand, founded in 1964 to advance education, research and regional development. Located in Khon Kaen province, KKU is recognised for its strong academic programmes in health sciences, engineering, agriculture, humanities and social sciences.

The university emphasises innovation, interdisciplinary research and community engagement, particularly addressing challenges in the Greater Mekong Subregion. KKU hosts modern research centres, digital infrastructure and international collaborations with universities worldwide. For HUMAN-AI, KKU offers excellent working conditions for incoming researchers — modern and comprehensive research infrastructure, computer labs, learning resources, high-speed internet, multimedia tools and other advanced digital information systems. KKU will host the first major secondment cohort of the project (1–30 November 2026) with 12 researchers from 7 partner countries.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Issara Kanjug

Dean of the Faculty of Education at Khon Kaen University for the 2023–2027 term. Earned his Bachelor’s in Secondary Education and both his Master’s and PhD in Educational Technology from KKU. A visionary in educational innovation, he leads initiatives such as the Teacher Prom AI Chatbot and develops future-ready learning frameworks for youth.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Srisawasdi

Assistant Professor at KKU’s Faculty of Education (Division of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education). Heads the Smart Science Learning Innovation team at KKU’s Smart Learning Innovation Research Center (SLIRC). An award-winning researcher; expertise focuses on technology-enhanced STEM education, digital learning, TPACK and AI-transformed education. Actively drives future-ready science education initiatives at Khon Kaen University.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Anucha Somabut

Currently serves as the Assistant to the President for Education at Khon Kaen University. Faculty member in the Department of Educational Technology (Faculty of Education); expertise focuses on digital learning environments, learning analytics and AI integration. Plays a key role in driving the KKU Smart Learning project to transform future-ready education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wirapong Chansanam — Host Coordinator for KKU secondment

Lecturer of Information Science at Khon Kaen University and Chair of the Digital Humanities Research Group. With 15+ years of experience, he has worked across information science, data analytics, AI and digital heritage. He leads academic programmes, supervises graduate research and drives international collaboration and innovation in digital technologies.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanyarat Kwiecien

Lecturer in the Department of Information Science at KKU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. PhD in Communication and Education Technology. Research expertise includes metadata, digital services and information behaviour, with a strong focus on preserving cultural heritage.
